Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about volunteering with the Kettle Campaign.
  • What is the Christmas Kettle Campaign?

The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is our largest fundraising drive of the year and one of Canada’s largest and most recognizable annual charitable events. With more than 2,000 kettle locations across Canada, the kettle not only raises critical funds but boosts the Army’s visibility and promotes awareness.

Since 1903, we have seen kettle campaign donations transform the lives of millions of Canadians, including helping them find a way out of poverty permanently.

  • How are the funds used?

Funds raised through Christmas kettles, together with other sources of funds, help provide direct, compassionate, hands-on service to 1.9 million vulnerable people each year in Canada. Each kettle location is organized and managed by a local Salvation Army unit. The funds raised stay in the community in which they were donated.

Volunteer with Burlington Community & Family Services

Make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families in our community. Volunteers are an essential part of the work we do, helping support food programs, community outreach initiatives, special events, and other vital services.

Whether you're looking to give back regularly or share your time when you're able, there's a place for you on our team.

    Our Community Partners and Volunteers

    Our Community Partners and Volunteers

Our work is made possible by generous donors, community partners and dedicated volunteers. Together, they help us provide practical support and a warm welcome to neighbours throughout Burlington.

Food Donations and Community Food Drives

We are grateful to our local supermarket partners, Costco, Starbucks, MR.SUB, Eastway Bakery, COBS Bread, Food for Life, Feed Halton, Homestead, Florian Realty, and the many individuals, residential communities and workplaces that donate food and organize food drives.

Whether it is a bag of groceries, a regular food donation or a workplace collection, every contribution helps us support our community.

As a beneficiary of The Gift of Giving Back, we receive food donations that help sustain our Food Bank for months. Its youth-led food drives also encourage young people to discover the importance of sharing, caring and supporting their neighbours.
We also thank our fellow food-bank partners for sharing resources and supporting one another when needs arise. This spirit of cooperation helps us care for our neighbours together.

    Seasonal and Financial Support

Our seasonal programs benefit from winter-coat donations through Coats for Cookies, financial contributions from BrokerLink/Donnell Insurance clients, and the generous annual Christmas donation from Burlington Dads.

We are grateful to local churches and congregations for their generous Christmas donations, helping us bring practical support and encouragement to individuals and families.
These contributions help us respond to needs beyond food and provide additional support throughout the year.

    Christmas Kettle Campaign

Our annual Christmas Kettle Campaign raises funds to support our work in Burlington. We thank Fortinos, Metro, Food Basics, Mapleview Mall, Burlington Centre, Walmart, and other participating locations for welcoming our kettles.

A special thank-you to the Rotary clubs in Burlington for their Christmas Kettle support, from volunteering at kettles to helping with kettle collection. We could not do it without them.

We are also grateful to every volunteer who gives their time and every donor who contributes to the campaign.
We also thank the Lions Club for participating in their annual Saturday event at our kettle. Their time and support each year are greatly appreciated.

    Our Volunteers

Our committed volunteers sort and prepare donated groceries, welcome visitors and help keep our programs running. Their time, care and dedication are essential to the support we provide
